On Friday, February 15, 2018, nine Barton Art and East students began investigating and researching for our project to restore the Barton Bear Statue that was dedicated to Frank McClellan. We looked through old yearbooks to find pictures of the statue, and after looking at the beaten and worn statue, we started sketching our ideas about what we should do to fix and restore this statue.

The fur is brown and maroon, representative of our school colors, but it looks more like brown with random blotches of red.

We documented the bear's conditions for our first steps. We noticed the need for repainting.

The feet have dirt crusted all over them.

The helmet should probably just be replaced. It is broken, but with paint, it might look better.

The feet in general need more detail than they have right now.

The painting on the face is supposed to emulate fur, but it isn't intimidating. It makes the bear look oldlike it has grey hair.

The paint on the eyes is chipped off, and the pupil is orange.

The gums are gray and are definitely in need of restoration.

The teeth have been glued in after being broken out. The glue that is on the gums needs painting.

Wish us luck in restoring the bear!
